In this work, Ji Eun Kim uses recognisable materials to present a recognisable subject. She strips away the complexity to help us think about its meaning.
We’ve all seen shipping containers before. But we always see them on a ship or train, at a construction site: as signs of industry and international trade. This work creates an image of them and presents them as art. It removes them from their usual busy context and gives us time to think.
